The Irish Wolfhound: Symbol of Celtic Splendor by Mary McBryde - US edition, Out Of Print. Hardcover, 1998.
A beautifully illustrated book, lots of photos, most in color. In addition to breed history, there are chapters on living with Wolfhounds, choosing a Wolfhound, care and training, activities, health care, and some notable kennels here and overseas.

The Magnificent Irish Wolfhound (A Ringpress Dog Book of Distinction) by Mary McBryde.
This is the UK edition of The Irish Wolfhound: Symbol of Celtic Splendor. Different cover, but has the same inside contents, and available at a reasonable cost.

The Irish Wolfhound Guide by Alfred DeQuoy - Out Of Print. Third Revised Edition. Hardcover. 1987.
Written by the breed's renowned statistician, this book has extensive data on the breed, genetics, the Irish Wolfhound  Standard of Excellence, advice on raising, care and feeding, and chapters on  obedience, coursing, hunting and show competition.  Also included are appendices of  registration data, the IW in literature, and a list of Irish names. Illustrated with  charts and photographs.

The New Complete Irish Wolfhound by Joel Samaha - Out Of Print.
Hardcover, 1991.
This book covers the Irish Wolfhound from its beginnings to modern times. Heavily illustrated - photos on just about every other page. Other chapters discuss the breed standard, the Irish Wolfhound puppy, feeding and training, and a brief overview of the breed in obedience, coursing and conformation.

You And Your Irish Wolfhound by John A. K. Donovan - Out Of Print. Hardcover, 1975.
The Irish Wolfhound: Great Symbol of Ireland by John A. K. Donovan - Out Of Print. This is the second of John Donovan's books about the breed - Hardcover. 1986. Line drawings by Anne Donovan and reproductions from the Book of Kells by the author.

Gazehounds & Coursing - The History, Art and Sport of Hunting With Sighthounds by M. H. Dutch Salmon. Hardcover, 1999 (2nd edition).
This revised and expanded edition covers all the AKC sighthound breeds, plus the coldbloods, staghounds, coyote hounds, lurchers, etc. Join the author on hunts for jackrabbits, coyotes, fox, and cottontails with a variety of purebred and mixed-breed hounds.

Gazehounds: The Search for Truth by Constance O. Miller. Paperback, 1988.
This book is based on the great series of articles the author wrote for Gazehound Magazine from 1976 to 1980. The history and evolution of the sighthound breeds, historical information on the development of the breeds prior to the 20th century.


Irish Wolfhounds respond best to POSITIVE teaching methods. Some good choices:

Getting Started: Clicker Training for Dogs by Karen Pryor
Paperback, 2002. Expanded edition. If you are curious about clicker training and want to give it a try, Getting Started: Clicker Training for Dogs is the place to begin.

Clicker Training For Obedience: Shaping Top Performance - Positively by Morgan Spector.  Paperback, 2006.
A great book! A step by step guide to applying clicker training to obedience exercises from Novice through Utility - detailed and thorough.

This popular book traces the development of pure-bred dogs and examines why they have become so popular. It is full of charming anecdotes about dog lovers such as Queen Victoria and the great American collector Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge.

Dogs Never Lie About Love: Reflections on the Emotional World of Dogs.  by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson.  Hardcover. 1997.
A psychoanalyst by profession, the author blends his serious observations on dog behavior with a light-hearted and emotional style of writing that is easy to read. He has drawn also from myths, literature, scientific studies and stories and observations from trainers and others.
Basic Homeopathy for Beast... And Man: Simple, Safe, and Effective Treatments for Everyday Ailments by Ilse Garriss, MS, DI Hom, RH.  Softcover, spiral bound. 1997.
Many of us were introduced to homeopathy  by means of a little book produced many years ago by IWANE member Ilse Garriss. Now, Howln Moon Press has published her totally revised and  greatly expanded version, which greatly improves upon the original in its straightforward explanations and ease of use.
