The Irish Wolfhound Association of New England (IWANE) is dedicated to the responsible stewardship of this ancient breed. Our mission spans from education and health research to rescue and breed standard advocacy.
We foster a community where owners and enthusiasts come together to celebrate the ‘Gentle Giants’ that have been the companions of chieftains and kings for centuries.

October 10 and 11, 2026
Coursing Ability Test (CAT)
Our fall CAT event will be held at 359 Hackleboro Road in Canterbury, New Hampshire. All breeds are welcome to run with an AKC or Canine Partner registration. Dogs must be at least one year old to compete.
This is a rain or shine event. Please plan accordingly. Bring your own shade and chairs. Spectators are welcome.
The event is on private property and no smoking is permitted. Please carry in and carry out. See you there!
Next Member Meeting
Our next general membership meeting will be held via Zoom on November 15, 2026. The meeting will begin at 10:00am with a guest speaker presentation. The general meeting agenda will begin immediately following.

Performance Events
The IWANE coursing committee is busy working on their 2027 schedule for Fast CAT and CAT trials. As soon as they secure the dates and approval from the AKC the schedule will be published on our Events tab, as well as our Facebook Group Page, Infodog, and AKC websites.
Cultural Events – Walk with Gentle Giants
Few breeds are as tied to Irish heritage as the Irish Wolfhound, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations than by showing off these gentle giants. Members are in the planning stages of participating in St. Patrick’s Day parades in New England in 2027. Whether you’d like to walk your own wolfhound, help with planning, lend a hand on the day, or simply come cheer us on, there’s a place for everyone. No experience is needed, just a friendly spirit and a love of this noble breed. If you’re interested in volunteering or want to learn more, please reach out to the IWANE secretary. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
